The J.R. GAUNT LONDON makers tablet

The J.R. GAUNT LONDON makers tablet

Badges with this fake tablet started appearing in greater numbers in recent years, often found on the scarce to find badges, such as, The Royal Navy Division battalion badges, and Canadian cap badges. This is likely done with the intent of boosting the price of the badge. I have come across a dozen of such in the last year, yet had only a few badges with a real tablet in the many years before that.

Note the font of the fake, the three N's are all of a different style. The tablet is a uniform rectangle in shape.

On the original tablet the N's are consistent style, the shape of the letter 0 rather than O, a common trait difference seen between original and fake badges and even medals. The tablet is not a uniform shape. Luckily the fakers have not managed to obtain the original punches used.

A recent group of Canadian badges obtained with the fake Gaunt tablets. Found on the cap badges of The First Hussars, and The Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians). Both are being sold as original badges by numerous well-known retailers and sellers of such items.
