A rare and well-preserved example of a Swiss infantry shako, likely issued to an enlisted man of the 21e Régiment d’Infanterie de Ligne. This pattern was worn during the 19th century.

Constructed of pressed felt and leather with a stiff leather visor, the shako retains its original shape and internal structure. The exterior features a black felt covered shell, somewhat dry and worn in areas. The ventilation grommets on either side are original to the helmet.

The front bears a white metal “21” regimental number with crossed rifles, flanked by two five-pointed stars, along with a striking black and red cockade and a orange/red pompon. The chinstrap buckles are steel, appropriate for enlisted ranks. Interior leather shows age and cracking; liner without draw string. The chin strap with a split but intact, requires repair.

This is a highly collectible shako with original components and regimental identifiers.
