An original and scarce commemorative medal for the taking of Porto Bello by the British Royal Navy from the Spanish in 1739, during the War of Jenkin's Ear.
26.2 mm. Bronze. The front with figure of Admiral Vernon, the outer inscribed "Admiral Vernon Took Porto Bello". The rear showing six ships blockade of Porto Bello, outer inscribed "With Six Ships Only Nov 22 1739".
A hole passed through for wear as a medal. Well worn and light surface pitting.
