Antique Swiss Army Officer's Kepi Hat – Fischer & Engel, Bern
Antique Swiss Army Officer's Kepi Hat – Fischer & Engel, Bern
An excellent example of a Swiss officer’s kepi, manufactured by Fischer & Engel of Bern, a prestigious uniform outfitter of the period. This cap likely dates from the late 1800s to early 1900s, and is crafted in the traditional Swiss military style.
-
Exterior: Features a fine black fur-felt body with leather trim and brim. A silvered cross badge is affixed to the front band, complemented by a beautiful national cockade (red and white rosette) and bright orange wool pompom.
-
Interior: Fully lined with original leather sweatband and crown. The interior bears the maker's mark: Fischer & Engel – Offiziersuniformen – Bern. Leather liner with gold-stamped edging remains intact, showing light honest wear.
-
Condition: Very good for its age—minor wear to the brim and light aging to leather parts, but structurally sound and visually striking.
These kepis were worn by Swiss officers in the field and for ceremonial duties and are increasingly hard to find in such complete condition. A fantastic display item for militaria collectors, Swiss historical enthusiasts, or uniform historians.
🎖️ A classy, well-preserved piece of turn-of-the-century Swiss military dress.
