Victorian British 1st Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps Officer's Silver Cross Belt Badge
Victorian British 1st Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps Officer's Silver Cross Belt Badge
Original Victorian-era officer’s cross belt plate badge for the 1st Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps (Queen Victoria's).
This striking cross belt badge is crafted in silver and features a finely textured Maltese cross. At its centre is a circlet inscribed "1st MIDDLESEX R.V.C. - VICTORIA’S", encircling a detailed motif of a horn and ribbon, typical of light infantry and rifles units. Surmounted by a Victorian Crown, this badge reflects the Volunteer movement's pride and distinction in the later part of the 19th century.
The section beneath the Crown is impressed with hallmark of J&Co., Birmingham, dated 1888 (o). The reverse features four original threaded post attachments, three with the original closure nuts.
A very rare and highly desirable piece of British Volunteer officer’s insignia from the late Victorian period, in wonderful condition.
During the 1880's it became a volunteer battalion of The King’s Royal Rifle Corps.
