An original and rare other ranks helmet plate of Her Majesties Reserve Regiment of Dragoons.
105 x 123 mm die stamped on gilding metal 12-pointed star, central motif of a lion over Victorian Crown (dragoons) within circlet. Rear fitted with two lug mounts, clinched, they seem to have been reattached at a wider position. This is probably a period reattachment or repositioning, as a similar braze has been utilised. Minor tarnish marks to gilding, particularly the reverse.
The Royal Reserve Regiments were stood-up in 1900 in response to the growth in commitment to the Second Boer War.
