Original WW1 German Black Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen), instituted on 3 March 1918 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. This decoration was awarded to soldiers of the Imperial German Army who were wounded in combat. The black grade was presented for 1–2 wounds.
The badge features a steel helmet (Stahlhelm) over crossed swords, framed by an oak leaf wreath, all finished in blackened iron. This example retains its original pinback on the reverse and shows light age wear typical of issued combat awards.
