Original French Navy (Marine Nationale) sailor’s cap, named to the Cassard (Destroyer).
The beret features a high-quality hand-sewn bullion wire anchor badge to the front and a traditional red wool pompom on top. The body is constructed of dark blue wool with red piping, and the black tally ribbon is embroidered “CASSARD” in gold thread.
The interior retains the original leather sweatband and fabric liner, both showing service wear. The chinstrap is a later replacement (glows under blacklight). A superb example and quite scarce to find.
The Cassard participated in the bombardment of Italy before being scuttled at Toulon upon The French surrender.
