Original WW2 German Mother's Cross (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter), 1st Class Gold Grade.
This 1st Class example features a gilt Maltese-style cross with white and blue enamel arms, bearing a black enamel political emblem in the centre medallion. Inner circlet is inscribed with "Der Deutschen Mutter" ("To the German Mother"). Reverse inscribed "16 December 1938" and signature of Adolf Hitler. Comes complete with the original full length neck ribbon. Snap closure button. Surface staining and stained ribbon.
This was awarded to German women in recognition of bearing and raising eight or more children in service of the Reich. Instituted by Adolf Hitler on 16 December 1938, the decoration was part of Nazi Germany’s efforts to promote large families.
