An original WW2 German War Merit Cross 1st Class (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse) breast badge in silvered zinc, featuring the Maltese-style cross with raised edges and a pebbled center.
This is the version with swords, awarded for exceptional service in combat roles. Reverse has a functioning pin-back fitting and retains original finish with age-appropriate toning. The silver finish has almost all but faded away, common with later war zinc awards such as this.
