An original WW2 German War Merit Cross 1st Class (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse) breast badge. Manufactured in silvered zinc. Featuring the Maltese-style cross with raised edges and a pebbled center.
This is the 1st Class version without swords. Awarded for exceptional service in non-combat roles. Reverse has a functioning pin-back fitting and retains original finish with age-appropriate toning. The silver finish has almost all but faded away, common with later war zinc awards such as this.
The design attributed to maker 3 Wilhelm Deumer. The number stamped to the reverse.
