WW2 Italian Occupation of Greece Medal – 1941 Campaign Commemorative Medal
Original Italian Fascist-era commemorative medal for the 1941 occupation of Greece, issued during World War II. The obverse features a Roman eagle standing over a map of the Balkans, extending a wing toward Greece, with the inscription “ROMA DOMA” (“Rome dominates”). The reverse shows the Parthenon in Athens and the legend:
“OCCUPAZIONE ITALIANA DELLA GRECIA – 1941 A.XIX” (19th year of the Fascist calendar).
Designed by F. GIANNONI, this piece is cast in zinc alloy and suspended from its original red-and-white ribbon. There is a oxidation spot to the reverse.
These medals were often privately purchased or distributed unofficially to commemorate participation in the Italian military campaign in Greece, and are now collected for their historical and propagandistic significance.
