An original 1939 Mengjiang United Autonomous Government National Foundation Merit Medal, instituted to recognise service connected with the establishment of the Japanese-sponsored Mengjiang government in Inner Mongolia on 1 September 1939.
30 mm diameter. Die stamped cupro-nickel. The reverse carries Chinese and Mongolian inscriptions:
“Genghis Khan Era, 734th Year, 9th Month, 1st Day” – corresponding to 1 September 1939 – together with 肇建功勞章, meaning National Foundation / Establishment Merit Medal.
Replacement ribbon of incorrect colours. Very good condition.
